About Us
The Ideological Trauma Project aims to help anyone who is struggling with mental health conditions caused by rigid, moralizing, and essentialist ideological beliefs, specifically popular leftist and identity politics frameworks.
Why does this site exist?
Many people seek help for distress caused by social and ideological stressors, only to encounter responses that reinforce the same frameworks that contributed to their harm.
There are few resources for individuals who have been harmed by dominant leftist frameworks within psychology and academia, and those that do exist are often right-leaning, promoting opposing but similarly harmful and essentialist beliefs. This site aims to fill that gap by offering support and resources without reframing distress through activism, while maintaining a progressive and inclusive perspective.
We hope to raise awareness about this form of trauma, and eventually see acknowledgement of it in psychological fields. We also hope to see dominant frameworks move towards universalism rather than tribalism and identity essentialism.
